The “European Hypersonic Defence Interceptor” (EU HYDEF) is a project co-funded by the European Union, under the European Defence Fund, and Belgium, Germany, Norway, Poland and Spain. OCCAR has been entrusted the management of the EU HYDEF project by the European Commission (EC) and the Participating States.
Between August 26 and 28, 2025, the EU HYDEF project successfully achieved its major technical milestone: The Concept Selection Milestone (CSM). The event took place at the facilities of Diehl Defence in Überlingen, Germany.
Based on the preliminary presentation of the Concept along the previous Core Stakeholder Workshop #5 held past 3rd to 5th of June, the Concept Selection Milestone addressed the set of 53 deliverables that further elaborates the details of the different sub-systems. The technical documentation, which was delivered on time and in full compliance with the project’s requirements, encompassed all the sub-systems of HYDEF, providing a thorough analysis of the different options assessed.
The CSM was conducted under the management of OCCAR HYDEF PD, with the active participation of the entire HYDEF consortium, led by SMS as Project Coordinator, Diehl Defence as Technical Coordinator and all involved Work Package leaders. Representatives from the HYDEF Participating States also attended the event, providing valuable feedback and confirming the strong alignment of the project with European defence priorities.
With the achievement of this Milestone, HYDEF Consortium is on the way of successfully closing the Project in the planned date of October 2026.
